Ziggy Marley, son of the reggae icon Bob Marley, believes that his father would have loved the upcoming biopic, Bob Marley: One Love.

In an exclusive interview to PEOPLE, Ziggy revealed that his father would’ve “laughed” had he lived to see the biopic hit the silver screen.

“He would laugh, but one of those proud laughs. He always wanted to make a movie. He was a creative person. He wanted to make a Western. There’s a lot of sides [to him] that people don’t really know. They will see those sides [in One Love] and they will connect with those sides,” he said.

Ziggy now 55 years old, was 12 years old boy when Bob died of cancer in 1981 at the age 36. Fast forward four decades later, he is passionate about bringing his father’s story to life.

The actor Kingsley Ben-Adir will play the character of the late Jamaican star. Meanwhile Bob Marley’s family members, that is, his son, Ziggy, his wife, Rita and daughter, Cedella are all producers on the film.

Referring to Kingsley, the Grammy-winning musician said that the actor’s performance reflects a “strong emotional side of Bob that people don’t normally see.”

“Kingsley did really good. There’s moments in there where we’re like, ‘Yeah, that’s just like Daddy’... I want people to take away emotion, but the bigger idea is for people [to] come together and live together in a peace and love. The message in the movie is unity. That’s what the movie stands for,” Ziggy added.

“It’s coming from us. And for it to be really true and authentic, then we have to be a part of that to make sure it’s done the right way. I think the message of the movie and the title of the movie is a very powerful idea to put out into the world right now. So I think it’s come at the right moment,” Ziggy further stated explaining the involvement of his family.

Ziggy’s entire family, which is comprised of his mother Rita, sisters Sharon and Cedella and brothers Stephen, Rohan, Julian, Ky-Mani, Damian and Robert, were the ones to approach a studio about making the movie, and remained “very involved” with every aspect of the upcoming biopic.
