Billie Eilish hit track 'What Was I Made For' won two Grammy Awards this year
Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas O’Connell discussed their song, What Was I Made For, which bagged two trophies at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards on February 4, 2024.
As reported by PEOPLE, the duo got candid about the hit track from the 2023 film, Barbie, on GRAMMY Live! from the Red Carpet pre-show.
Their song garnered a total of six Grammys nominations and Eilish revealed that it was far from what she intended.
The 22-year-old singer revealed that she planned on taking an off during 2023 however, she stated that it was “insane” to be so recognized for just one song.
“We put one song out this whole year. And did not think it would get — maybe one, even, let alone six. Which is really, really crazy,” the Ocean Eyes said.

Further reflecting on her excitement for recognition at the Grammys she continued, “This was supposed to be an off year. Didn’t put an album out, didn’t do anything. We really made one song and we were like, ‘Here you go.’”
“It's just insane. It's so surreal and amazing,” she further added referring to the nominations her song received in the categories of record of the year, song of the year, best pop solo performance, best song written for visual media, and best music video.
Her brother, Connell, who co-wrote the Barbie song, chimed in and said, “That movie was so meaningful to the two of us and we loved it so much and the sort of honor of writing something to participate in it was like, immense, for us.”
“To be in any of these rooms, on ‘Team Barbie,’ has been really fun. I was saying that to Greta [Gerwig] recently. I feel like we’re honorary members of the Barbie entourage and it’s very cool,” he further added as he praised the movie, Barbie and the project’s director, Gerwig.
