About 'Moana' live-action adaptation:
Apart from its sequel, last April, Disney announced that the 2016 hit film is also being adapted into a live-action version which is expected to be released soon.
The voice actress behind Moana, Mean Girls star Auli'i Cravalho would be serving as an executive producer on that project as a new actress takes on the lead role. Meanwhile, Dwayne Johnson would be reprising his role as the franchise’s character, the demigod, Maui.
In a statement to PEOPLE back in April, the 23-year-old actress described the character Moana as having “a profound impact on how we think of Disney princesses.”
“Moana's strength and perseverance are inspiring — to audiences around the world, to me and to everyone who helped bring her to life. I'm looking forward to sharing her story in a whole new way," she said, expressing her excitement over the upcoming adaptation.
