King Charles faces the daunting challenge of cancer treatment, all eyes turn to Queen Camilla, who is poised to play a pivotal role in supporting her husband through this difficult time.

The Palace insider exclusively told PEOPLE, “She is his strength and stay like [Prince Philip] was for the late Queen,” adding, “She will be great. She will rally him, she will buoy him. She is amazing. She equips him to do the job he has to do.”

King Charles spouse of nearly two decades will have a crucial role in providing him with support during his treatment period while also fulfilling her extensive schedule of public responsibilities.

On Monday, Buckingham Palace disclosed that the King had received a diagnosis of "a type of cancer" and recommended deferring public engagements while undergoing treatment.

King Charles, 75, along with Queen Camilla, 76, worshipped together at St. Mary Magdalene in Sandringham the day before the announcement.

Furthermore, Queen Camilla accompanied the King as they departed London on Tuesday, returning to Sandringham.

With King Charles scaling back on public appearances and Kate Middleton still in the midst of her extended recovery after abdominal surgery, the responsibility of representing the monarchy falls primarily on Prince William and Queen Camilla.

“It is hard with Kate being ill as well, but he will step up,” a source close to the royal household says of Prince William.

While the Prince of Wales, might assume certain responsibilities in place of his father, there are presently no intentions to designate Counsellors of State to represent King Charles.

The source said, “He wouldn’t want to put that pressure on William,” adding, “He has always wanted to save his children from having that pressure too early and that will remain. Particularly as William has other priorities [with Kate].”
