Netflix released trailer for its upcoming murder mystery documentary titled, American Conspiracy: The Octopus Murders on Thursday, February 8, 2024.
The trailer revolves around the journalist and freelance writer, Danny Casolaro and his rather controversial death. He was found dead in his bathtub with his wrists slashed 10-12 times on August 10, 1991.
The official description of the documentary series states, “When journalist Danny Casolaro was found dead in a hotel bathtub, police ruled it a suicide.”
Authorities and medical experts declared his death suicide however his family and close friends claimed that Casolaro was murdered for working on a case that he called “the Octopus.”

“But his family and colleagues believe he may have been murdered for investigating a conspiracy he called “The Octopus” - a hidden organization connected to stolen government spy software, a string of unsolved murders, and some of the biggest political scandals of the 20th century,” the statement further read providing insights into the historical background of the case.
From Casolaro’s point of view a man can be heard in the trailer saying, “These eight men, they’re no longer government officials but their tentacles can reach into any part of government any country. I’ve come to call this group, the Octopus.”
“If you think for a minute, you’re gonna go expose somebody, you’re gonna get yourself killed,” a man on the phone can be heard saying during the closing seconds of the trailer.
Explaining the plot of the murder mystery, the description continued, “Years later, researcher Christian Hansen pushes to uncover the secrets behind Casolaro’s death, and the story that killed him. From Stardust Frames, Duplass Brothers Productions, and director Zachary Treitz - this four-part docuseries untangles a mystery decades in the making.”
