Mariska Hargitay chooses 'Karma' as cat's name inspired by Taylor Swift song

Mariska Hargitay opened up about naming her cat after Taylor Swift’s song Karma, on the latest episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon , aired on February 8, 2024.

During the 60-year-old actress’ appearance on the late night show, she shared her thought process on how Swift named her cat after Hargitay’s Law & Order: Special Victims Unit character, Olivia Benson.

“It was such a sweet honor and I think she loved SVU and I think she loved Grey’s Anatomy,” Hargitay told the host, Jimmy Fallon.

“So, she named one after me and one after Ellen Pompeo,” the actress added.

Chiming in, the 49-year-old host said, “But then, here’s what’s even cooler. Then you got a new addition to the family you got a cat.”

“You got a Siamese cat and the cat’s name [is] Karma,” he further stated as he held up a photo of the pet cat.

For context, back in November, Hargitay took to her official Instagram to reveal that she had gotten a new cat and had named it Karma.

"Karma is a Cat @taylorswift Meet Karma. My Cat. #MeAndKarmaVibeLikeThat #AndIKeepMySideOfMyPawClean #KarmaIsACat," her caption read making a reference to Taylor Swift’s hit song, Karma.

As the audience cheered and laughed to the pet cat’s picture, the actress responded to the host saying, “There was no other name for this cat. And she’s such a Karma. She’s so perfect and aptly named and it’s just right.”

Much to everyone’s delight, Fallon then proceeded to reveal that Taylor Swift had responded over Hargitay’s post, “You posted that and then Taylor responded and said, ‘Are you serious?!!!! Nothing has ever come more full circle LOVE THIS SO MUCH!!”

"That was a thrill," Hargitay responded, to which the audience  gave a thunderous applause and cheered the actress on.
