Cyndi Lauper’s son Declyn Lauper found relief after being released from jail as he was arrested and charged with allegedly illegally carrying a loaded firearm in New York City.
According to New York Daily News, the True Colors singer’s only son was apprehended after a 24-year-old male was shot Wednesday night in Harlem on W. 112th St. near Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd.
The criminal complaint filed in Manhattan Criminal Court disclosed that Declyn was taken into custody from the proximity after the shooting.
He reportedly had a fanny pack in his hands which carried a loaded Glock containing seven bullets in its magazine.
According to the complaint, Lauper was found with the weapon “with intent to use it unlawfully against another,” and he was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a firearm.
It is reported by the New York Post that the prosecutors alleged Declyn was with another man and they both used the Uber service to travel from Queens to 135th West 112th St. before the crime occurred.
As per the reports on ABC News, the victim was identified as Omar Lewin and in reports it is mentioned that he was also charged with illegal custody of a weapon.
The reports claimed that after his arrest, the judge made Declyn's bail at $20,000 cash.
He was presented at Manhattan Criminal Court, on Friday.
Assistant District Attorney Harriet Jiranek said during his hearing, “The defendant and the separately apprehended individual drove to the location both with firearms to engage in what appears to be illicit activity,” and Declyn pled not guilty to both indictments.
Declyn is set to appear in court again on Tuesday, with his legal representation.
This is not the first time when he faced legal charges, in July 2022 he was arrested in New York City after police allegedly found him sitting in a stolen 2014 Mercedes Benz C350 and he pleaded guilty in Manhattan Criminal Court at that time.
