Carl Weathers' cause of death has been revealed almost a week after his death on February 2, 2024, at the age of 76.

According to The Blast, the actor’s cause of death states "atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease,” in his death certificate, death certificate.

Weathers’ death certificate also stated that the Rocky star was inside his home in Venice, California, when he died at 12:18 a.m. local time.

Further reports from the outlet state that the document mentioned that investigators declared Weathers’ manner of death as “natural" adding that he had suffered from heart disease for years.

It also listed that the actor's son, Matthew Weathers, was the individual who informed authorities of Weathers' death. It is also reported that Weathers' family will take home the actor’s ashes following his cremation.

PEOPLE magazine reached out to representatives for Weathers, as well as the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner for comment but have not heard back.

Weathers' family announced his death in a statement on February 2, 2024, noting that the Predator actor "died peacefully in his sleep.”

"We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Carl Weathers. Carl was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life. Through his contributions to film, television, the arts and sports, he has left an indelible mark and is recognized worldwide and across generations. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner and friend," the statement read.

Carl Weathers used to play professional football in the NFL in the early 1970s, before he pursued a full-time acting career that spanned for over forty years.
