Shah Rukh Khan has strongly denied any involvement in securing the release of eight Indian Navy veterans who were detained in Qatar.

According to NDTV report, the veterans, who were imprisoned for 18 months on espionage charges, were released, prompting claims by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy that PM Narendra Modi had requested Khan's intervention.

However, the Pathan star's office issued a statement refuting these claims, asserting that the successful resolution solely rested with the Indian government officials.

The statement emphasized that Khan's participation in the matter was unfounded and unequivocally denied, stating, “regarding the reports concerning Shah Rukh Khan's purported role in the release of India's naval officers from Qatar, the office of Mr. Shah Rukh Khan says that any such assertions of his involvement are unfounded, emphasising the execution of this successful resolution solely rests with the Indian government officials and unequivocally denies Mr Khan's participation in this matter.”

The Jawaan actor expressed happiness at the safe return of the naval officers and wished them well.

Shah Rukh Khan had recently been in Doha, Qatar, to attend the AFC final as a special guest.

Meanwhile, the outlet revealed that PM Modi, who was in the UAE, is scheduled to visit Qatar to discuss strengthening bilateral ties.

Following their release, one of the Navy veterans, among the seven who returned to India, expressed gratitude to PM Modi for his personal intervention, stating that their freedom wouldn't have been possible without his efforts.

He said, “we waited for almost 18 months to be back in India. We are extremely grateful to the PM. It wouldn't have been possible without his personal intervention and his equation with Qatar. We are grateful to the Government of India from the bottom of our hearts for every effort that has been made and this day won't have been possible without those efforts.”

In response, the Ministry of External Affairs welcomed the release of the eight Indian nationals, acknowledging the Amir of Qatar's decision to enable their return home.
