Bri Bagwell gets candid about her song 'The Rescue'
Bri Bagwell released her song, 'The Rescue' out of love for her pet dog
Bri Bagwell provided insights into the creative process behind the production of her pet-oriented song, The Rescue, which she released on February 6, 2024.
The musician exclusively spoke to PEOPLE about how her now-pet as a stray dog, whom she named Whiskey, was the inspiration behind her new track.
"I turned the corner and there [she was] in the middle of the road. I chased her for a while, but she eventually stopped, and I picked her up. It breaks my heart because it was a cold day. It was going to freeze that night," the 36-year-old recalled, when she first met the sad dog.
It could be regarded as no less of a miracle that the skinny, cold and traumatized little chihuahua was rescued by the woman who happens to be the Texas Female Country Artist of the Decade.
The Rescue revolves around the special relationship between the dog and her rescuer, displaying a heartwarming tune that the New Mexico-native wrote alongside fellow singer/songwriter Helene Cronin.

“We've been inseparable ever since. And now she's just living her best life,” she said, discussing her bond with Whiskey.
"We didn't even plan on writing a song about Whiskey. But on the second day, we were writing together, and I wanted to write a song about my little girl, but every time I even would try, I just burst into tears. But once we started, it just kind of flowed out," Bagwell further stated on writing the song.
As easy as it was for her to write the lyrics to the song, so was the music video creation for The Rescue, in which more than 200 Bagwell fans were featured with the rescue dogs that they rescued, sparing them from suffering the atrocities of life.
“I don't know any of these people, but the love jumps off the screen. You can feel it. I cried when I first saw the finished video. I was like, ‘Why am I crying?’ I don't know any of these dogs,” Bri Bagwell noted on how she became emotional when the video was being created.
Bri Bagwell has been named as the Texas Female Country Artist of the Decade. She has recorded many hit songs including Cheat On Me, Trenches and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.
