Usher reflects on failed relationship with Chilli: 'wanted to marry her'
Usher and Rozonda 'Chilli' Thomas dated for three years, from 2001 to 2004
Usher recently opened up about his past love life with fellow music star, Rozonda ‘Chilli’ Thomas, whom he dated for three years.
In an interview with PEOPLE, the Hey Daddy singer recalled the time when he released his first album, My Way, at the age of 18.
The Standing Next To You hitmaker told the outlet that due to his ‘seductive persona’ he was mostly attracted to older women, leading to his meeting with Chilli, who was seven years senior than him.
He expressed his admiration for the Waterfalls songstress, stating, “If I am to be honest, I was her No. 1 fan, and she was my superstar”
“At the age of 8, I put her poster on my wall and said, ‘Man that girl is so beautiful. One day I’m going to meet her,’” the My Boo singer added.
However, Usher and Chilli’s relationship didn’t work out, leading to breakup in late 2004.
Sharing the reason behind their breakup, he said, “I was a young man, and she had very specific rules that didn’t work for me, we were missing each other. I really did want to have a different type of relationship where she was there with me, and she couldn't be. She didn't believe that I was actually in love with her as much as I was.”

“I hurt her too,” he admitted.
