Oppenheimer has stolen the spotlight at the SAG Awards 2024, as it clinched the prestigious honour for Motion Picture Ensemble on Saturday.

Christopher Nolan’s movie based on the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the physicist who invented the nuclear bomb used in World War II, garnered the award after giving competition to other nominees Barbie, The Color Purple, and Killers of the Flower Moon.

While accepting the honour, on behalf of the stellar cast, Kenneth Branagh said, "Thank you. It's my it's my honor to say a few words briefly on behalf of this incredible cast on stage and to the extended family of Oppenheimer, who can't be here.”

He added, “So, thank you so much, Chris Nolan and Emma Thomas. Thank you for the opportunity,” further expressing his gratitude for the respect, and also extended words of thanks to “Donna Langley and Universal Pictures for believing us.”

He voiced appreciation to SAG-AFTRA, admitting their aid and advocacy, stating, "Thank you for fighting for us.”

The Hamlet star reflected on their last gathering at the film premiere on July 14 of the previous year, highlighting their solidarity during the impending strike.

“And led by our fearless leader, the great Cillian Murphy, we went from the red carpet and we didn't see the film that night. We happily went in the direction of solidarity with your good selves," Branagh said.

He concluded, “W are grateful and we are humbled and we are proud not just to be in Mr. Nolan's masterpiece, but proud to be in your company. Thank you so much."

Murphy, Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, and Florence Pugh are among the ensemble cast of the film, all receiving individual recognition for their performances.
