Royal Family shared a video of judging panel, who are asked to select winners from impressive pool of entries


Buckingham Palace hosted a judging panel for BBC 500 Words writing competition.

The creative writing competition aimed at children aged 5-7 and 8-11, inspired young minds to craft fictional tales within a 500 word limit.

Taking to Instagram on Monday, the Royal Family shared a video of judging panel, who are tasked with selecting winners from impressive pool of entries.


Detailing in the caption, the Royal Family shared, “The creative writing competition encourages children, categorised into 5-7 and 8-11 year olds, to write a fictional story – using 500 words or fewer.”

It continued, “Earlier this month, judges of the UK’s most successful children’s writing competition were welcomed into the Palace to deliberate over the winners from almost 44,000 entries.”

“Chaired by @bbcbreakfast’s Jon Kay, the judges include Sir Lenny Henry, Frank Cottrell-Boyce, Francesca Simon, Charlie Higson and Malorie Blackman,” the caption further read.

The caption concluded, “This week, 50 finalists, along with their parents and carers, will join The Queen at the 500 Words Grand Final at Buckingham Palace, which will also be shown in a special programme on @bbctheoneshow next week on World Book Day, Thursday 7th March.”
