Pankaj Udhas, music legend and Padmashri winner, bid farewell to the world at the age of 72 after battling a prolonged illness.

The ghazal singer, known for his hits like Chitti Ayi Hai and Chandi Jai Rang died on February 26, 2024.

Taking to Instagram, on Monday, Pankaj’s daughter, Nayaab Udhas confirmed the news of his demise.


The statement read, “WITH A VERY HEAVY HEART, WE ARE SADDENED TO INFORM YOU OF THE SAD DEMISE OF PADMASHRI PANKAJ UDHAS ON 26TH FEBRUARY 2024 DUE TO A PROLONGED ILLNESS. UDHAS FAMILY”

She captioned the post with, “Can’t believe this devastated by this news . The most kind & loving Shri Pankaj Udhas ji ! May almighty give strength to you @nayaabudhas @ojasadhiya & the whole family in these difficult times . Prayers”

Born on April 17, 1951, in Savarkundla, Gujarat, the Chupke Chupke singer emerged as a prominent figure in the world of music, with his breakthrough song Chitthi Aayee Hai from the film Naam in 1986.

Because of his contribution to Indian music, Udhas was honored with the prestigious Padma Shri award by the Indian government in 2006.
