James Gunn 'Superman: Legacy' alters name in fresh development: Deets inside
'Superman' is scheduled for release on July 11, 2025
James Gunn's highly anticipated film, initially titled Superman: Legacy, undergoes a significant alteration in its title.
The Co-CEO of the DC took to his Instagram on Thursday, to share an update regarding the major changes in the title as he completed working on the final draft of the film’s script.
He shared the image of the symbolic Superman logo, blanketed in snow, along with the note.
Gunn penned in the caption, “Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on SUPERMAN today, February 29, which just so happens to be – coincidentally and unplanned – Superman’s birthday,” wrote the Guardian of the Galaxy director.
He went on to say, “When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN. Making our way to you July 2025.”

While posting further updates on his Instagram story section, Gunn shared the same logo and noted the caption, “How wild is this? Today was our first day of principal photography on #Superman - Feb 29 - which happens to be Clark Kent's birthday. Unplanned. (Photo from my iPhone on location today).”
Following he shared the update, the fans couldn’t hold their excitement and flooded the comment section.
One wrote, “i can’t even wait no more. someone unfreeze me when it comes out”
Another added, “SOMEONE COOKED HERE”
While the third noted, “So so excited for you!! May it be a smooth shoot and a beautiful process throughout. Can’t wait to see it.”
Superman is scheduled for release on July 11, 2025, marking the first solo Superman venture following Zack Snyder's Man of Steel starring Henry Cavill.
