Netflix hit series One Day star Ambika Mod bravely opened up about her past experiences with bullying, revealing that she was targeted at school for her appearance.

Mod, who received recognition for her role as Emma Morley in the Netflix adaptation of author David Nicholls' 20-year love story, shared that portraying the role of a romantic lead character, which she initially declined, has been “pretty validating” for her now.

While conversing on the latest episode of Reign with Josh Smith's podcast, she discussed, “I had a bad experience with boys at high school.”

Mod added, “They'd come up to me, quite regularly, and say, "You're really ugly". S**t like that.”

The British actress went on to say, “That does still inform a lot of who I am. So I guess that being cast as the romantic lead in a big TV show is pretty validating. If I were in my villain era I'd be cackling, ‘I proved you wrong!'”

She continued, “I know what it feels like to go through a day where nothing is sparking joy and you just feel really hopeless and a bit futile for the future and all you're living in is self-doubt and self-criticism.”

For the unversed, One Day has garnered 15.2 million views since its release on Netflix and has become the most-viewed English series globally.
