Priyanka Chopra Jonas has shared that she is intimately connected to the upcoming documentary film To Kill a Tiger, which delves into the sensitive and pervasive issue of sexual assault.

The Citadel starlet opened up the grounds to “catapult the conversation that this film starts,” while conversing with PEOPLE.

Chopra, who signed on as an executive producer before its March 10 streaming premiere on Netflix, shared, “I seek and attach myself to work that really pushes the conversations of issues that I feel close to or passionate about, and sexual violence against women definitely is one of them.”

The mother of one went on to say, “In India, we say one-third of women in India have experienced sexual violence, and that statistic has to be higher because of underreporting.”

The story of To Kill a Tiger revolves around the Indian farmer’s struggle for justice after his 13-year-old daughter is raped.

Chopra highlighted the vague justice system in many parts of the world, as she mentioned, “The justice systems in many parts of the world are not the most empathetic to the victims and put them through trauma all over again.”

The Barfi star also added, “The film speaks to not just survivors, but their allies as well, men supporting women.”

To Kill a Tiger is slated to release globally on Netflix on Sunday.
