Shakira opens up about her ‘lot of sacrifices’ for ex Gerard Piqué
Shakira and Gerard Piqué announced their separation in June 2022 after 11 years of marriage
Shakira has opened up about the sacrifices she made for her relationship with ex-partner Gerard Piqué as she disclosed that she deliberately paused her career to prioritize her family life.
While conversing at The Sunday Times, the Waka Waka singer, 47 gave rare insights about her relationship with the former Spanish footballer before they announced the split after an 11-year romance in June 2022.
Shakira shared with the outlet about her former partner, “For a long time I put my career on hold, to be next to Gerard, so he could play football.”
She also added, “There was a lot of sacrifice for love."
Shakira, who is going to release her latest album, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, this month, first met with Piqué in 2010 on the set of Waka Waka music video.
The couple confirmed the relationship rumors on their social media in March 2011.

They also share two children, sons Milan, 11, and Sasha, 9.
The Hips Don’t Lie crooner welcomed her first child in 2013, and their second child was born in January 2015.
In June 2022, Shakira and Piqué released a joint statement to announce the separation.
The statement said, "We regret to confirm that we are separating," adding, "We ask for privacy at this moment for the well-being of our children, who are our maximum priority. Thank you in advance for your understanding and respect."
