Netflix series Peaky Blinders fans have reason to rejoice as Cillian Murphy has been officially confirmed to star as Thomas Shelby in the upcoming movie adaptation.

At the premiere of BBC production, This Town, on Thursday, the creator Steven Knight announced while speaking with BirminghamWorld that the Oppenheimer lead would reprise his role in the upcoming movie adaptation of the British period crime drama.

Knight shared, "He is definitely returning for it. We're shooting it in September just down the road in Digbeth.”

The production of the movie will be kicked off at Digbeth Loc Studios in Birmingham in September and will be set against the setting of the Second World War.

Previously, Cillian Murphy voiced his enthusiasm for the Peaky Blinders movie project, stating, "I have always said that if Knight delivers a script that I know he can deliver, because he is such a phenomenal writer, I'll be there.”

He went on to say, “If we want to watch Tommy Shelby, I will be there. Let's do it."

After garnering the Oscars 2024 for his hit role in Oppenheimer, Murphy shared about his character of Thomas Shelby, stating, "I loved playing him,” adding, “He was exhausting and so wildly different for me that each time going back was kind of a journey."
