Ryan Gosling film 'The Nice Guys' earned an estimated $62 million on a $50 million budget
Ryan Gosling shed light on why the anticipated sequel of The Nice Guys never materialized as he revealed that the unexpected success of the animated movie Angry Birds played a significant role in derailing their plans.
While conversing with ComicBook.com, the Barbie actor shared, “So much of a sequel, I think, is decided by the opening weekend of a movie, and we opened up against Angry Birds.”
Gosling further explained that the Angry Birds movie which premiered in 2019, “So Angry Birds just, just destroyed us. Angry Birds got a sequel.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Notebook actor's claims were right, as the Shane Black-directed film had a competition in its opening week.
The movie is also in line with the release of Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising.
Further, Captain America: Civil War also premiered at the third weekend in theatres, so it was a tough battle.
The Warner Bros. film ultimately failed to outperform Angry Birds, which debuted at an estimated $11.3 million, while the animated picture brought in $39 million domestically.
The Nice Guys earned an estimated $62 million on a $50 million budget.
