A group led by Elon Musk has shared that they have offered $97.4 billion to buy the non-profit that controls OpenAI, on Monday.

As per Reuters, the initiative is another salvo in the billionaire's fight to block the artificial intelligence start-up from switching into a for-profit firm.

However,  OpenAI CEO Sam Altman intensified the feud with  the 35-year-old after after promptly   responding  on X: "no thank you but we will buy twitter for $9.74 billion if you want."

For the unknown, Musk  and Altman cofounded OpenAI in 2015, as a nonprofit, but left before the company took off.

 Later, musk founded the competing AI startup xAI in 2023.

Musk, the CEO of Tesla (TSLA.O), opens new tab and owner of tech and social media company X, is a close ally of President Donald Trump.

Elon Musk has spent heavily to support Trump’s election campaign and now leading a new White House department focused on reducing federal bureaucracy.

 Recently, he slammed a $500 billion AI project spearheaded by OpenAI that was announced at the White House.
