Prince Harry cheers on athlete during the Invictus Games
Prince Harry was delighted to see a couple getting engaged during the Invictus Games and cheered them on.
Following the wheelchair basketball game on February 9, British Army veteran James Cairns stunned his girlfriend, Hannah Wild, of four years, as well as surprised the audience by proposing during the Invictus Games.
In the middle of the court, he grabbed the microphone, getting down on one knee as he popped the question and was met with loud cheers from his teammates, as reported by Hello Magazine.
Joined by their two-year-old son, Arthur, who slept through the beautiful gesture, his girlfriend wholeheartedly accepted the heartfelt proposal.
In conversation with the publication, the 40-year-old Duke of Sussex expressed, "At Invictus, we provide a space for healing, outstanding athleticism, and in James and his new fiancée’s case, even if you don’t leave with a medal, you could leave with a ring!"
Having been shot in the leg during his deployment in Afghanistan, the veteran shared that his girlfriend encouraged him to apply for the Invictus Games.
"She pushed me and gave me the driving force to apply for the Invictus Games," he said.
"Invictus has been my driving force because I've been struggling with my mental health," he continued.
Hannah also commented, "It's the best place that James could have done it because it means so much to him."
