In a bid to compete with its rivals X (formerly Twitter) and Meta-owned Threads, the social networking site Bluesky now supports videos up to three minutes long.

This feature builds on the platform's initial video support, which was limited to 60-second clips when it launched in September 2024.

It’s worth mentioning that Bluesky’s competitor X allows nonpaying users to upload videos up to two minutes and 20 seconds in length, while Threads supports videos up to five minutes long.

This update is significant for developers creating third-party apps that integrate with Bluesky.

The apps, including Bluescreen and Skylight, aim to provide a TikTok-like experience on the platform.

With the expanded video limit, these apps can offer a more comparable experience to TikTok, which supports videos up to 10 minutes long.

In addition to the video update, Bluesky has introduced several new features. The platform now offers a "Chat requests" screen for managing messages from unknown users.

Once users receive a DM request, they can choose to accept or reject it via the new screen.

Similarly, Bluesky allows users to mute accounts more quickly by clicking the three-dot menu on a post and then selecting the “Mute account” option.

The platform has also improved tablet-size layouts on the web and has enhanced its moderation reporting flow.
