Carrie-Anne Moss became an over-night sensation following the release of  Matrix  in 1999. The franchise spawned three direct sequels, a fourth follow-up, and numerous video game adaptations, among other avenues.

The actress played hacker and programmer Trinity in the hit movie. Due to its immediate influence on pop culture, the role could have taken her to greater heights.

Now, the sci-fi star has opened up about what held her back from reaching those heights.

“After ‘The Matrix’ was such a big deal, I took a big, big break to have children and be with them,” Moss has revealed, in an interview with The Independent.

The actress recalled feeling “torn” over her choice initially, adding, “And I was holding my baby in my arms, and I remember thinking, ‘At the end of my life, will it matter to me that I have another movie on my résumé? Or will it matter to me that I held my baby?’”

She then shared that the remorse was short-lived.

“And I instantly thought, no. It was just a no-brainer. And I’m so glad I did that. I’m so glad I don’t have that regret,” Moss reiterated.

Despite her decision, the actress has continued working steadily over the years.

Moss has worked with director Christopher Nolan in 2000’s Memento. She also has appearances in Marvel TV series, Jessica Jones and the recent Star Wars spin-off show, The Acolyte.

She found herself back in Trinity’s shoes for the fourth film in the Matrix franchise, The Matrix Resurrections, in 2021.
