The ChatGPT parent company OpenAI has developed a new AI large language model (LLM) that excels in creative writing.

In a post on X (Twitter), OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman shared an example of the new AI model's output where he posted a metafictional literary short story about AI and grief.

Notably, for the story Altman gave the prompt “Please write a metafictional literary short story about AI and grief.”

Narrated by AI itself, the story explored the themes of artificial intelligence, human emotions, and the blurred lines between creativity and mimicry.

The story also touched on the idea that AI can mimic human emotions, but might not truly experience them.

“Not sure yet when this model will get released but this is the first time, I have been struck by something written by AI; it got the vibe of metafiction so right,” Altman said.

According to Altman, this unnamed model is the first AI-generated content that has truly impressed him.

Altman also praised the AI model's ability to capture the tone of metafiction, saying it "got the vibe of metafiction so right."

It is important to note that this development comes at a time when the AI giant is in its tussle with the creative industries over copyright.

Last year, OpenAI acknowledged that it would be impossible to train AI models like ChatGPT without using copyrighted materials. This raised important questions about the ownership and authorship of AI-generated content.
