Nintendo has officially announced the launch date and pricing details for its highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 gaming console.

The much-awaited successor to its popular hybrid home-portable Switch will be available on June 5 and will retail for $449.99 in the United States.

The Kyoto-based gaming giant revealed more details about the Switch 2 on Wednesday, following a teaser announcement in January.

According to analysts, the new gaming console is expected to offer a seamless transition for gamers, due to its upgraded hardware and familiar design.

The Nintendo Switch 2 boasts several exciting upgrades, including a larger screen, mouse controls, and a dedicated chat button on the controller.

The console will be available in Japan for JPY 49,980 ($334) for a Japanese language system, while a multi-language version will retail for JPY 69,980.

While industry experts note that the pricing is slightly higher than expected, Nintendo likely took into account the current inflationary environment and the $699.99 price tag of Sony's PlayStation Pro.

It should be noted that the original Switch has sold over 150 million units worldwide, with hardware refreshes and popular games extending its lifespan.

Moreover, Nintendo has announced several exciting games for the Switch 2, including "Mario Kart World," enhanced versions of Switch "Zelda" games, and classic GameCube titles for subscribers to Nintendo Online.
