Indian actor-director Manoj Kumar passes away at 87
Veteran actor Manoj Kumar left a void in the hearts of his ardent fans after his sudden death.
The star passed away at Mumbai's Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, where he was admitted due to some heart-related issues.
After a prolonged battle in the hospital, the legendary actor succumbed to heart-related complications.
According to the hospital's medical certificate obtained decompensated liver cirrhosis had been listed as the secondary cause of death.
Kumar, originally known as Harikrishnan Goswami, was born in Abbottabad, a small town located in the North West Frontier province.
He stepped into the glitzy world of Bollywood in 1957 with his debut film Fashion and made many contributions to the industry.
The actor's major breakthrough project came a few days later with Kanch Ki Gudiya (1961), where he co-starred alongside Sayeeda Khan.
Also his power-packed performance in nationalistic movies like Purab Aur Pachhim (1970) and Kranti (1981) had earned him the popular moniker, ‘Bharat Kumar.’
Apart from flaunting his acting chops, Kumar joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) before the 2004 general elections.
Several Bollywood celebrities came forward to mourn the loss of the famous actor.
Union Minister Rajnath Singh also expressed condolences to the family, admiring his work.
