What is Google’s most expensive AI model to date
Google announces pricing for its Gemini 2.5 Pro AI model
Google has announced the pricing for its Gemini 2.5 Pro artificial intelligence (AI) model, a cutting-edge reasoning model with industry-leading performance in coding, reasoning, and math.
With costs ranging from $1.25 to $2.50 per million input tokens and $10 to $15 per million output tokens, Gemini 2.5 Pro is Google’s most expensive AI model yet.
While the pricing structure varies depending on the number of input tokens, Gemini 2.5 Pro is more expensive than other AI models, including Gemini 2.0 Flash, and some other top-tier models such as rival OpenAI's o3-mini and DeepSeek's R1.
However, it is still priced lower than some highly competitive models, such as Anthropic's Claude 3.7 Sonnet with $3 per million input tokens, $15 per million output token, and OpenAI's GPT-4.5 which has $75 per million input tokens, $150 per million output tokens.
That said, the tech industry's response to the pricing has been largely positive, with developers praising the rates as sensible.
Nevertheless, there appears to be an upward trend in pricing for flagship AI models, driven by high demand and computing costs.
On the sidelines, Google CEO Sundar Pichai reported an 80% increase in usage of Gemini 2.5 Pro in Google's AI Studio platform and the Gemini API this month alone, highlighting the model's popularity among developers.
