Apple's upcoming iPadOS 19 update is expected to significantly improve multitasking and productivity, making the iPad a more powerful device.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the Cupertino-based tech giant has planned to make the iPad's operating system more consistent and Mac-like, focusing on productivity, multitasking, and app management.

"I'm told that this year's upgrade will focus on productivity, multitasking, and app window management, with an eye on the device operating more like a Mac," Gurman noted.

However, despite rumours, Apple won't merge iPadOS and macOS into a single operating system. Instead, the two will remain separate but share similarities in usage and functionality.

It should be noted that the iPad Pro models already use Apple Silicon chips similar to those in Mac models. Therefore, upcoming updates with M5 chips could further benefit from iPadOS productivity changes.

iPadOS 19 will likely be the first time Apple users will feel a real sense that the tablet can operate like a true laptop replacement.

That said, the upcoming update is set to be announced at the World Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025, which is scheduled to be held from June 9 to June 13.

Alongside this update, Apple Intelligence is also expected to be one of the main announcements of the event.
