Ellen Pompeo, who is best known for her work as Meredith Grey on the American medical drama Grey’s Anatomy, has provided a unique reason for why she will never be fully done with the show.

While the 55-year-old star left as the series mainstay following the 19th season of the show in 2022, she continued to appear sporadically in further episodes since, doing voiceover work.

Explaining her choice to remain associated with her most well-known job, she revealed why it "would make no sense" to quit it entirely.

"The show was streamed more than a billion times in 2024, more than a billion times," Ellen spoke with El Pais, emphasising the financial turnover of the American series.

"If I were to walk away completely, everybody gets to make money from my hard work for 20 years and I wouldn’t make any money," the Daredevil actress explained while also adding that the show makes its money back using "our images and our voices and our faces."

"To me, it doesn’t make any sense that everybody else gets to profit off of my hard work," she continued.

Also commenting on her personal bond with the medical drama series  and its fans, the actress further stated, "And emotionally, the show means a lot to people. I want to have an attitude of gratitude toward the show."

Ellen Pompeo is currently appearing in a new series from Hulu called Good American Family.
