Nick Frost, who's known for appearing alongside Simon Pegg in British hits like Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, has been cast to work  in the upcoming Harry Potter  TV series from HBO Max.

However, much like the discourse surrounding the rest of the series, the 53-year-old's casting also came under heavy criticism.

Christina Frost's husband announced  about his upcoming role  with an  Instagram post.

The performer, who also works as a screenwriter, will be playing the beloved character Rubeus Hagrid, famously essayed by late actor Robbie Coltrane in the original Harry Potter films.

“You’re a wizard, Harry!!!” Frost’s caption began, referencing Hagrid’s immortal line from the series.

In a subtle move to throw off critics of the developing series, the How to Train Your Dragon actor turned off comments on his post.

While people were unable to access the feature on his announcement post, they expressed their disappointment in the comments of other posts from his account.

“This is so sad, are you just going to keep turning off comments and deleting posts to avoid legitimate criticism from your fans? If you do this HP show, you will have to answer for JK and excuse her comments for the rest of your career. Is that what you want?” wrote one user.

While another wrote, “The fact you’ve turned comments off on the previous post shows you know exactly why taking that role is a poor decision.”

For those unversed, the upcoming series has received backlash for platforming author JK Rowling’s famous work amid her strong anti-trans views in recent years.

Despite the massive backlash, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav revealed their plans for airing the series throughout a whole decade.

“When we launch ‘Harry Potter’ in a year, a little over a year, we’ll have 10 consecutive years of ‘Harry Potter’, and be able to amortize that globally, around the world,” Zaslav, who heads the parent company behind the upcoming series, shared.

Nick Frost’s casting in the show comes following the announcement of other actors cast in the show like John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, among several others.

The Harry Potter series from HBO Max is poised for a 2026 release, the specifics are still unknown.
