Prince Louis: Find out 7 secrets about the cheeky royal on his birthday
The Prince and Princess of Wales’s youngest son just turned seven

Prince Louis celebrates his seventh birthday today, April 23, and the youngest child of Prince William and Kate Middleton is already well on his way to becoming the most memorable member of the royal family currently.
Born in 2018 to the Prince and Princess of Wales, Louis is the youngest brother of Prince George, 11, and Princess Charlotte, 9.
Here are seven facts to observe the seventh birthday of the most audacious royal family member:
The origins of Prince Louis’ name
The full birth name of the seven-year-old birthday boy is Prince Louis Arthur Charles Mountbatten-Windsor. While Charles is an obvious nod to his grandfather, King Charles III, his first name is borrowed from Lord Louis Mountbatten’s, maternal uncle to his great grandfather, Prince Philip, as well as an important paternal figure to the current King, who regarded the late statesman as an esteemed mentor.
Meanwhile, Arthur is a moniker the young prince shares with both William and Charles, who are named Prince William Arthur Philip Louis and King Charles Philip Arthur George, respectively.
George and Charlotte’s adorable nickname for Louis
Prince George and Princess Charlotte affectionately regard their younger brother as Lou Lou, as revealed by British author Robert Jobson in his work titled Catherine, the Princess of Wales: The Biography.
“Before introducing him to the world, William had brought the baby’s older siblings, George and Charlotte, to meet him. They affectionately called him ‘Lou Lou’,” he wrote.
Louis’ unusual food preference
The birthday boy’s mum revealed in 2019 that her youngest is oddly fond of beetroot.
Speaking with British baking legend Dame Mary Berry, Princess Kate said, “We grow our own vegetables, we’ve got carrots, beans, beetroot’s a massive favourite, Louis absolutely loves beetroot.”
She also revealed that the young royal also enjoys pizza and that he participated in a pizza baking session with his two older siblings using Berry’s personal recipe for baking pizza dough.
The luxurious present he received from uncle Harry
Prince Harry gave his third nephew a first edition of A.A. Milne’s classic children’s tale Winnie the Pooh which dated back to 1926.
The £8,000 present was presented to by the Duke of Sussex on the occasion of Louis’ christening in 2018, which reportedly shared a special connection with the late Princess Diana, who is known to be an avid collector of first edition classic texts.
Prince Louis’ bold demand during his first public engagement
At five years old, when Louis made his public engagement debut at the Big Help Out in Slough, a volunteering community event, he loudly remarked, “I want to go in with him!” at his mum as he wanted to join older brother George, who was nine at the time and allowed to help their father Prince William operate a digger during the community service event.
Prince Louis’ special privilege
As the youngest among his siblings, Louis is specially privileged to be the more spoiled one out of the bunch, suggested BBC’s royal correspondent Jennie Bond.
“Being the youngest is often something of a privilege. You get away with a lot more and you are that little bit special as the last-born,” she recently told the Mirror.
Princess Kate’s soft spot for ‘baby’ Louis
The Princess of Wales has a special connection with her youngest, for whom she chose the special nickname of Lou-bugs. She once said of him, “I keep thinking Louis is a baby, but he’s a big boy now.”
