Here's why Sarah Jessica Parker was absent from Met Gala

Sarah Jessica Parker left fashion followers disappointed with her decision to skip the 2025 Met Gala.

However, the Sex and The City alum revealed a rather thoughtful reason for her absence that was felt by most.

“I have to work,” she shared with Entertainment Tonight’s Rachel Smith at the second Annual Cultured Magazine Cult 100 gathering.

She also went on to share her anticipation for the night’s theme and the looks it would reveal, saying, “But there’s going to be so much to see and I look forward to seeing what everybody does, and how they interpret the theme and the homework they did for the assignment.”

This year’s fashion fundraiser at The Metropolitan Museum of Art boasted the theme of Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, where the style elite gathered to pay their best tributes to black icons who inspired generations over the years.

The theme was in turn inspired by author and scholar Monica L. Miller’s book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, released in 2009.

Meanwhile, with the exception of this year, Sarah Jessica Parker has walked the Met Gala red carpet an impressive 12 times over the years, with her first appearance dating all the way back to 1995.
