Jimmy Kimmel made his return to the late night stage and announced that the reason he skipped the previous episode was due to his daughter, Katie Kimmel, welcoming her own daughter.

After assuming his new role as a grandfather, Kimmel addressed his absence by sharing, “We are back to work after an extra day off. You know, we were supposed to have a show last night, but we didn’t because my daughter had a baby last night.”

He joked that the name given to his granddaughter by their parents is “Melania thee Stallion”, before quickly clarifying that it is actually Patti, “with an ‘I’, not a ‘Y’.”

It was also pointed out that the 57-year-old media personality also made a bit of a history by becoming late night television’s only grandfather at the moment.

None of his peers, which include Stephen Colbert, Jon Stewart, Jimmy Kimmel, and Seth Meyers, have any grandchildren.

Kimmel shares his daughter Katie with ex-wife Gina Maddy, with the couple welcoming her when the late night host was just 23.

He also has a son named Kevin Kimmel with his ex-wife.

Following their divorce, Jimmy Kimmel married his current wife, Molly McNearney in 2013, with whom he shares two younger children, 10-year-old Jane and 8-year-old Billy.

The latest episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! aired today, May 21.
