Elon Musk’s xAI to pay Telegram $300m to bring Grok AI to all users
In a significant development, Telegram has entered into a major partnership with Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence (AI) startup, xAI, to integrate its chatbot Grok directly into the messaging platform.
According to a statement from Telegram CEO Pavel Durov, as per the agreement, xAI will pay Telegram $300 million in a combination of cash and equity.
Under the deal, Grok will be embedded into various apps available on the Telegram platform for one year.
Additionally, Telegram will receive 50% of all revenue generated from xAI subscriptions purchased through the app.
It should be noted that Grok had previously been made available to Telegram Premium users, but this new agreement indicates that the chatbot could soon be accessible to a broader audience.
Moreover, a promotional video shared by Durov on X (formerly Twitter) shows how users will be able to interact with Grok, pinning it to the top of chat windows or using it via the app’s search bar.
The video also highlights Grok’s features, including writing suggestions, summarising chats and documents, generating stickers, assisting businesses with customer support, and helping with content moderation.
This partnership also marks a significant step for both Telegram and xAI in the race to integrate advanced AI tools into mainstream communication platforms.
