Angelina Jolie at 50: Film star and mother-of-six opens up about life on her birthday

Angelina Jolie has remained a Hollywood mainstay since the days of her debut back in the ‘90s, however, after weathering multiple storms, the actress is celebrating her 50th birthday with an endlessly grateful attitude.

Born to actors Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand, the Lara Croft actress was already brushing shoulders with Hollywood royalty when she attended her first Academy Awards ceremony in 1986 at the age of just 10, where she accompanied her father and older brother, James Haven.

Following her parents’ break-up amid accusations of adultery on her father’s part, Jolie cultivated an even closer relationship with her mother, whose memory she has carried as she steps into the fifth decade of her age.

“She appreciates getting older because she lost her mom young,” a source revealed to PEOPLE.

The Mr. & Mrs. Smith star’s mother passed away in 2007 at the age of 56, following a prolonged battle with ovarian cancer.

After her mother’s death, Jolie disclosed her decision to undergo a double mastectomy procedure to reduce risks of developing ovarian and breast cancer, diseases which run in her family.

As the 50-year-old actress and producer finalised her highly publicised divorce from ex-husband Brad Pitt in December last year, the mother-of-six is reportedly making more time for her well-known humanitarian work.

“Her focus is returning to her foundation work as her family needs her less,” PEOPLE’s insider further reported.

Angelina Jolie is mother to Maddox, Zahara, Pax, Shiloh, as well as twins Knox and Vivienne, while her latest film role was in the Pablo Larrain-directed biopic Maria, based on the life of iconic opera singer Maria Callas, and released in 2024.
