'Squid Game' creator teases fans with possible spin-off endeavours

Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has hinted at the possibility of a spin-off for the global Netflix hit show, creating buzz among fans.

In a recent interview with The Korea Times, the acclaimed director noted, "I have considered the idea of a spin-off. There were moments during production when I grew curious myself."

However, it is worth noting that this isn't the first time Dong-hyuk has entertained the idea of expanding the Squid Game universe. He previously said, "If I make [a] spin-off, it will be a story happening between Season 1 and 2. There [was] a three-year gap between Season 1 and 2. So, I want to show what they did for those times."

Elsewhere in the interview, Dong-hyuk confirmed that the upcoming season will officially mark the conclusion of the series.

He remarked, "After watching Season 3, some may think there’s room for a Season 4, while others may feel there’s no need for one."

To note, the third and final season of Squid Game is scheduled for release on Netflix on June 27, 2025.
