Snapchat rolls out new editing features to empower creators

In its ongoing competition with Instagram and TikTok, Snapchat has unveiled a series of new features aimed at simplifying content creation and enhancing visibility for creators on the platform.

One of the key tools is the Timeline Editor, which gives users a more intuitive way to edit videos directly within Snapchat.

The new tool presents video clips in a chronological layout, allowing for easier trimming, rearranging, and organisation of footage.

Once a sequence is arranged, creators can enhance their content using filters, lenses, background music from the Sounds library, and other creative features.

The platform’s main goal is to minimise creators' reliance on third-party editing apps like CapCut.

Snapchat has also launched a new “Create a Video” template that allows users to select multiple Memories, add a song, and automatically generate a stylised compilation.

This feature is now available globally for iOS users.

In a separate move, the platform will now allow creators to auto-save their public Stories to their profiles.

While this might stray from Snapchat's original concept, it enables users to curate a lasting archive of their favourite moments, helping them maintain a public content portfolio.

Moreover, to help creators better understand audience behaviour, Snapchat is expanding its insights dashboard.

Creators will now see how many people viewed their content consistently over 12 days, which Stories and Spotlight posts performed best, and how much time was spent watching them.
