Break ups can go two very different ways. One way is that the couple completely cut ties with each other. The other way is they choose to remain on good terms as friends.

In Hollywood, where relationships are always under the spotlight, a few celebrities have shown that not every break up has to end in bitterness or on bad terms and that friendship is totally possible.

There are some exceptions to this as some exes have to stay in contact with each other because they are coparenting their kids together.

Here are some of the famous stars who still have a strong bond with their exes

Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas

Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato had a brief romantic relationship while on the set of Camp Rock 2 in 2010.

However, their relationship was short-lived as they had called it quits just a few months later but to this day the two have remained close friends and recently performed on stage together on August 10, 2025.

On the Jonas Brother’s 20th anniversary tour the former lovebirds took to stage to perform hits from Camp Rock, taking fans down the memory lane. 

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon

Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey may have parted ways and divorced back in 2016, but the former lovers have stayed on good terms and built supportive bond while coparenting their twins.

Reflecting on his relationship with his ex partner, Nick shared and Variety reported, "It just made us say, ‘Let’s coexist for the betterment of our children.’ We’re doing whatever we can to make sure their upbringing is as healthy as can possibly be and that we’re as healthy as we can possibly be."

He also praised her, saying, "She’s one of the most talented women to ever be on this planet. I can’t hold a candle to that woman."

Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone

Andrew Garfield has nothing but praise for his ex partner Emma Stone. Their romance began after meeting on set of The Amazing Spider Man in 2011. Their incredible on-screen chemistry seeped into real life and dated for four years before calling it quits in 2015, making headlines.

As Vanity Fair reported, in January 2017, Andrew attended Golden Globes where he gave a standing ovation when Ryan Gosling’s La La Land co-star Emma Stone won her own award.

Later on he reflected on his past relationship with Emma, saying, "We care about each other so much, and that’s a given, that’s kind of this unconditional thing."

Continuing, "There’s so much love between us and so much respect. I’m her biggest fan as an artist. So for me, it’s been bliss to be able to watch her success and watch her bloom into the actress that she is. And it’s also been wonderful to have that kind of support for each other. It’s nothing but a beautiful thing."

Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth Paltrow first crossed paths with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin backstage at one of his concerts back in October 2002 and they instantly formed a connection.

Just over a year later, in December 2003, they exchanged vows and later welcomed two kids Apple Blythe Alison Martin and Moses Martin.

However, in 2016, the now former couple divorced, going their separate ways but continuing to have a friendly relationship.

Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder

After years of dating, Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder ended their relationship in 2013.

However, their relationship is far from holding grudges as they continue to have a friendly relationship. Nina not only is on good terms with Ian but his wife Nikki Reed as well.

During her appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, the Vampire Diaries alum spoke about their friendship, "I don’t think our friendship is weird at all. I think that’s great. Why can’t everyone be friends? I think they have a beautiful baby, and they are happy and so am I. What’s bad about that? I don’t see any problem with that."

Even after their split in 2015, Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck continue to share family vacations and holidays with their children, keeping their bond strong.

During an interview, the 53-year-old actor and filmmaker didn’t hold back his admiration for his ex and now pal the Yes Day star, describing her as "the greatest mom in the world.”

Taylor Kinney and Lady Gaga

Even after calling off their engagement in July 2016, Lady Gaga and Taylor Kinney have maintained a close bond.

A source came forward and shared with Us Weekly, that they are still in touch on a daily basis and even though Gaga began dating her agent Christian Carino, she went on to admit that she will always have love for Taylor.
