Bipolar disorder, formerly called manic depression, is a mental health condition that causes extreme mood swings. These include emotional highs, also known as mania or hypomania, and lows, also know as depression.
There are many female Hollywood celebrities who have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
Check out who they are:
Mariah Carey
The All I Want For Christmas Is You hitmaker was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2001, but she told People magazine that she “lived in denial and isolation” for years.
However, she finally sought treatment after dealing with numerous professional and personal issues.
“I put positive people around me, and I got back to doing what I love -- writing songs and making music,” Mariah said.
Bebe Rexha
The Grammy nominated songstress has opened up about her diagnosis with full transparency, first revealing it in April 2019 and later discussing it in interviews.
"I'm bipolar and I'm not ashamed anymore,” Bebe said via X (formerly known as Twitter).
She added, "I felt lows that made me not want to leave my house or be around people and why I felt highs that wouldn't let me sleep, wouldn't let me stop working or creating music.”
Demi Lovato
The Heart Attack songstress was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2011 after checking into a residential treatment facility for substance abuse and self-harm.
At 18 years old, Demi was relieved to receive the diagnosis, seeing it as an explanation for her struggles with mood swings, extreme lows, and intense highs.
Selena Gomez
The Only Murders in the Building actress faced mental health challenges in her twenties that led to a diagnosis of bipolar disorder.
“My early 20s is when it started to get really dark, when I started to feel like I was not in control of what I was feeling, whether that was really great or really bad,” Selena told Rolling Stone.
Halsey
The Without Me hitmaker has publicly discussed living with bipolar disorder.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Halsey revealed that she wrote her third album during a manic episode.
