J.K. Rowling applauds Emma Watson parody after trans dispute

J.K Rowling and Emma Watson, once close from their Harry Potter days, are now publicly distant due to their differing views on transgender rights as Emma recently shared her feelings in an interview, saying she still has care for J.K., despite their differences.

Emma Watson opens up

In her interview, the Little women star said, “I really don’t believe that by having had that experience and holding the love and support and views that I have, mean that I can’t and don’t treasure Jo and the person that I had personal experiences with.”

The 35-year-old also said she was hurt that they never got a chance to talk things through, “I think the thing I’m most upset about is that a conversation was never made possible.”

Still, Emma hopes for a future conversation and said, “Yeah and I always will. I believe in that completely.”

A parody video goes viral

Soon after Emma’s comment, a parody video was posted online. In the video, a satirist mimicked the actress’ interview in a humorous way.

The parody featured a fake version of the actress saying, “I have always held space for J.K. and so much love in my heart for her and would hope that she felt the same way about me.”

She added, “But also, I stand shoulder-to-shoulder with those who would wish harm on her, hate her, and would wish the absolute worst for her in her life. … those two things can exist at the same time, which is why I love this incredibly diverse world that we live in.”

The caption of the parody read, “You may need some vinaigrette to consume this,” poking fun at what it called a “word salad.”

J.K. Rowling responds with laughter

The British author saw the parody and shared it on social media with a laughing emoji, she wrote, “I’m here for ALL the spoofs.”

Her reaction made it clear that J.K. appreciated the video and seemed to dismiss Emma’s interview as unclear or inconsistent.

Still no resolution

J.K. Rowling has stood firm on her views and has said she cannot forgive those who publicly opposed her.

However, Emma Watson seems opens to reconnecting one day but for now, the rift between the two remains, showing how hard it can be to keep old friendships in the face of deep disagreements.
