'The Simpsons' movie sequel confirmed after 20 years
The wait is over as 'The Simpsons' family return to the big screen in 2027 after two decades

After twenty years, fans of The Simpsons finally got the news they have been waiting for. A sequel to The Simpsons movie has been officially confirmed.
The original film, released in 2007, was a major success and left viewers wondering if Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie would ever return to the big screen and now, that question has been answered with a brand-new announcement.
The sequel release date
The Simpsons movie 2 has been given a release date of July 23, 2027. Along with the confirmation, a teaser poster was shared on social media showing a doughnut being grabbed, paired with the line, “Homer’s coming back for seconds.”
This playful message immediately caught the attention of long-time fans who have been eager for the family’s return.
Why the delay took so long
Plans for a sequel have been discussed for years, but nothing solid had been put into action as back in 2014, the creators shared that they were approached for another film, yet the project never moved forward.
More recently in 2024, one of the writers explained that no official talks or script development had taken place and that the COVID-19 pandemic slowed down everything further.
He also mentioned that the studio was waiting to see the performance of animated movies in theaters again before committing, saying, “I want to see the animation business completely returned to what it was before the pandemic. And then, I think if that was the case, it would make sense to do The Simpsons theatrically.”
What fans can expect
So far, no story details have been revealed about the sequel. The first movie ended with Maggie whispering the word “sequel?” during the credits, leaving the door open for a future continuation.
With the new film finally on its way as excitement is building to see what hilarious adventures and challenges the Simpsons family will face this time.
The official confirmation marks the beginning of a new chapter for one of television’s most iconic families and fans around the world are counting down the days until their big-screen comeback in 2027.
