Before they were household names and award-winning artists, some of today’s biggest celebrities had surprising beginnings on reality television.

Here’s a look back at their early TV moments that might surprise you.

1. Lady Gaga on 'Boiling Points'

Long before Just Dance and Bad Romance gave boost to her music scene, Lady Gaga was hustling for screen time. In 2005, she popped up as a contestant on MTV’s prank show Boiling Points.

The concept was very simple, endure annoying situations without losing your cool and win $100. Unfortunately for Gaga, poor restaurant service sent her over the edge.

Fans often revisit the clip for a glimpse of her pre-fame determination. Looking back, it’s a reminder that even future icons had to endure awkward gigs.

2. Emma Stone on 'In Search of the New Partridge Family'

It’s hard to imagine two-time Oscar winner Emma Stone belting out lines in a TV singing competition, but that’s exactly how she got her start.

Competing on VH1’s In Search of the New Partridge Family, Emma auditioned for the role of Laurie Partridge in a planned reboot of the ‘70s sitcom, though she won the role, but the project never made it past the pilot stage.

3. Beyoncé on 'Star Search'

Beyoncé’s anthem Flawless reveals that she was on "Search moment".

Back in 1993, she appeared with her girl group, Girl’s Tyme, introduced by host Ed McMahon. Despite the group’s amazing energy, they ended up loosing the competition.

But Star Search wasn’t a loss, it was a stepping stone. Girl’s Tyme included Kelly Rowland and LaTavia Roberson, both of whom went on to join Beyoncé in Destiny’s Child.

4. Amy Schumer on 'Last Comic Standing'

Before she became one of comedy’s boldest voices, Amy Schumer was crushing it out on stage. In 2007, she appeared on NBC’s Last Comic Standing and finished in fourth place. The show gave her a national platform and exposed her sharp, fearless humor.

Years later, Schumer shared on the moment with her signature fun. In 2021, she posted a throwback clip on Instagram, writing, “About 10 years ago I was on a reality show and had to tell my joke to a nun.”

It’s proof that her comedy chops were always there, she just needed the right stage.
