Snapchat to now charge for storage: Here’s how to save Memories for free

Snapchat has announced that it will soon begin charging users for storing their Memories, marking the end of an era for the app’s free digital archive.

The company confirmed that free Memories storage will now be capped at 5GB, forcing users who exceed the limit to either export their old Snaps or subscribe to one of its new paid plans.

According to the company, the new Memories Storage options include 100GB for $1.99 per month, 250GB for Snapchat+ users at $3.99 per month, and up to 5TB for Snapchat Platinum members at $15.99 per month.

Snapchat users who don’t upgrade will have their oldest Snaps preserved while newer ones are deleted once the limit is reached.

Notably, the company is offering users a 12-month grace period to manage or export their excess data, although many have already begun manually saving their content to avoid the upcoming fees.

Here’s how to save Memories for free

To back up Memories for free, users can export them to their phone’s camera roll directly from the app.

After opening Snapchat, select the “Memories” icon beside the camera button, tap “Select” in the top-right corner, choose up to 100 items, and press “Export” followed by “Download.”

This process can be repeated in batches until all Memories are saved.

For those unversed, Snapchat introduced Memories in 2016 as a private archive of saved Snaps and Stories.
