Inside Piers Morgan longstanding feud with Meghan Markle, Prince Harry

The affections and friendship that was present between broadcaster Piers Morgan and Meghan Markle has deteriorated over the years and has become one of the most famous celebrity feuds of the time.

The most prominent examples of this bad blood can be seen in the media and in the public surrounding the royals.

As reported in The Daily Record, Morgan first ‘met’ the 44-year-old over social media platforms and later on, ‘met’ her in London in 2016. This meeting was just before she was set to ‘meet’ prince harry, and the two seemed to enjoy each other’s company, having drinks and conversations.

The 60-year-old even emphasized this ‘brilliant’ time of ‘the two’ in later presentations and memoirs. He also commented on the strange manner in which ‘ghosting’ took place after the meeting with prince harry.

This shift in relations seemed to have left a mark of bitterness. As the public first saw Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, Morgan started his public criticism aimed at the couple’s media conduct.

Good Morning Britain star, as reported in HuffPost UK, described Meghan as ‘a social climber’ and expressed his critics on her absence of emotions in her public appearances.

The conflict intensified significantly after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey. Morgan openly rejected Meghan's claims regarding her mental health issues and her suicidal thoughts.

Shortly after the interview aired, Morgan left Good Morning Britain and, after receiving an interview request from the Sussexes, he stated, "There's no interview. They've got no interest in talking. They have an agenda, and the agenda is to spare to be." In 2022, Meghan and Harry signed a multi million dollar content deal with Netflix.

Morgan charged out Meghan publicly, denying her allegations of mental health problems and triggering over 50,000 complaints to and finally causing his resignation by Good Morning Britain, according to The Guardian. Morgan has since gone on to attack the couple, calling their Netflix show and memoir self-promotional.

In the meantime, the recurrent legal battles of Prince Harry against the British tabloids once again put Morgan in the spotlight with previous claims related to the question of unethical media practices that occurred when Morgan was an editor resurfacing.

Commentators in the royal court describe the feud as more than personal revenge, it is a wider conflict of the monarchy, media influence and new celebrity culture.

According to analysts, Morgan and the Sussexes are now two sides of the same coin because they each want to have their way in a world where reputation is king.
