Taylor Swift fans think she shaded Travis Kelce’s ex Kayla Nicole in ‘The Life of a Showgirl’

Taylor Swift’s latest album The Life of a Showgirl has been packed with personal lyrics and fans are convinced she’s referencing Travis Kelce’s past, including his ex-girlfriend, Kayla Niccole.

‘Opalite’ lyrics raise eyebrows

The third track, Opalite, is widely believed to be about the Shake it Off singer’s romance with the NFL star. The song reflects on her past heartbreaks and the path that led her to Kelce but it’s the second verse that caught everyone’s attention.

Swift sings, “You couldn't understand it, why you felt alone, you were in it for real, she was in her phone and you were just a pose.”

The lyric appears to nod at Kelce’s previous relationship with Nicole which lasted on and off for about five years starting in 2017. The two were a public couple, frequently appearing on red carpets together.

Swift continues, “And don't we try to love love? We give it all we got / You finally left the table, and what a simple thought / You're starving 'til you're not.”

Kayla Nicole and Patrick Mahomes friendship rumours

While the Cruel Summer songstress has never mentioned Nicole publicly, fans speculated tension after Nicole unfollowed Patrick Mahomes on Instagram in October 2023. The move came shortly after his wife, Brittany Mahomes, was seen out with Swift in New York as her romance with Kelce began to blossom.

Addressing rumours of falling-out with Brittany, Nicole told PEOPLE at the time, “That's a lot of history and friendship there, that doesn't change overnight... I have to protect myself. That's really all that is. The love is still there."

Kayla reacts quietly to engagement news

Nicole has avoided directly commenting on Kelce’s relationship with Swift. After the pop icon and NFL star’s engagement became public in August, Nicole declined to comment when asked by Daily Mail during an appearance.

Instead, she told PEOPLE, “The opinions of others are only as big as you make them... Sometimes on social media, we think that it's the whole world, and it's really not."

On the night Swift’s album dropped, Nicole was seen celebrating with a group of San Francisco 49ers WAGs, as seen in an Instagram post by her friend Katie Austin.

Charli XCX also possibly referenced

Nicole is not the only one seemingly referenced on the album. In Actually Romantic, Swift appears to allude to pop icon singer Charli XCX, singing about someone who called her “boring Barbie” and mocked her past relationship.

However, fans believed it may tie back to Charli’s 2024 track Sympathy is a Knife, rumored to be aimed at the Lover singer after Charli married George Daniel, bandmate of Taylor Swift’s ex, Matty Healy.
