While some tech moguls focus on innovation and profits, others are channeling their fortunes toward making the world a better place.

From global health and education to climate action and economic mobility, several of the world’s richest tech billionaires have dedicated billions to solving pressing global challenges.

Here’s a look at three of the most influential tech philanthropists and how they are making an impact.

Bill Gates

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates stands as one of the most renowned philanthropists of the modern era.

After stepping away from his daily corporate duties, Gates shifted his focus entirely to global welfare through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which he co-founded with his former wife.

The foundation is one of the largest private charitable organisations in the world, with initiatives aimed at eradicating diseases, reducing extreme poverty, and improving education.

Beyond that, Gates launched Breakthrough Energy, an initiative investing in clean energy technologies to combat climate change and accelerate a sustainable energy future.

Steve Ballmer

Former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has turned his attention toward addressing systemic inequality in the United States.

Through the Ballmer Group, he has donated billions to improve economic mobility and education for children and families in need.

The group focuses on building stronger communities by funding programmes that create opportunities in education, workforce development, and public service data systems.

Michael Bloomberg

Michael Bloomberg, the founder of Bloomberg LP and former New York City mayor, takes a data-driven approach to philanthropy through Bloomberg Philanthropies.

His organisation works across areas such as public health, climate change, arts and culture, and government innovation.

Bloomberg’s unique focus on using data and analytics to inform decisions has transformed how cities and institutions tackle complex issues, from reducing tobacco use to fighting climate threats.
