SNL has taken bold steps with its humor, politics, and cultural commentary for over fifty years. The live format has produced countless memorable moments, as well as controversy and outrage. That reminds us all that the risk is part of the SNL brand.

Season 51: What to expect

Season 51 starts on October 4, 2025, at 11:30 p.m. ET. Bad Bunny will host the first episode, and Doja Cat will be the musical guest. Later in the month, Amy Poehler will host with musical guest Sabrina Carpenter, who will perform some of her own songs.

NBC has confirmed that new featured players Tommy Brennan, Jeremy Culhane, Ben Marshall, Kam Patterson, and Veronika Slowikowska will join the SNL ensemble. Older players and some audience favorites will be back as well: Kenan Thompson, Bowen Yang, Chloe Fineman, Mikey Day, and anchors Michael Che and Colin Jost. There has been speculation that Che and Jost may exit “Weekend Update” soon.
