Spotify is taking music personalisation to the next level by partnering with OpenAI’s ChatGPT to deliver smarter, more conversational recommendations for users worldwide.
Both Premium and Free Spotify users can link their accounts to ChatGPT, allowing the AI chatbot to help them discover new songs, artists, playlists, and podcasts through natural, interactive conversations.
The company demonstrated several example prompts in its announcement, such as: “Make a playlist with some Latin artists that are on my heavy rotation,” or “What podcasts would you recommend if I want to go deeper into science and innovation?”
Addressing privacy concerns, Spotify clarified that no audio or video content will be shared with OpenAI for AI training.
The new feature is completely optional, requiring users to opt in and giving them the freedom to disconnect at any time.
“Spotify’s vision has always been to be everywhere you are,” said Sten Garmark, the company’s Senior VP and Global Head of Consumer Experience.
“By bringing Spotify into ChatGPT, we’re creating a powerful new way for fans to connect with artists and creators conversationally, whenever inspiration strikes,” Garmark stated.
This partnership builds on Spotify’s recent push into AI-powered features.
Earlier this year, the platform collaborated with ElevenLabs to produce AI-narrated audiobooks and introduced new policies targeting AI-generated “spam” music, removing over 75 million fake tracks.
