Hollywood has long been recognized as a glamorous and elite world where people indulge in and excess. With all the fancy gowns and champaign towers, there is also a dark side that few acknowledge. A dark world filled with power games and control and abuse that twisting the world of entertainment.

Beneath the velvet rope

Multiple sources and insiders at the Hollywood Reporter and Vanity Fair, have reported that all that glitters in Tinseltown is not to be trusted.

Passes controlled by the top studios and A-list stars after parties have a reputation for heavy drinking and drug abuse. Rumors of abuse and exploitation run freely, with former insiders and warning of “playgrounds for the powerful”.

From the golden globes to the hills

Even the Golden Globes and Oscars as well as their after parties in the past have been shrouded with scandals.

Page Six reported inappropriate behavior, deals and advances at the elite after parties of the Oscars and Globes as well as the Chateau Marmont and the Playboy Mansion.

Leonardo DiCaprio’s exclusive, invitation-only yacht parties and Diddy’s infamous Hamptons celebrations have gained attention and speculation mainly due to the celebrity guests and the gossip surrounding the events.

When power meets temptation

Hollywood’s elite parties have, at times, been used as a means to exploit others. The curtain was lifted after the Harvey Weinstein scandals. Grazia reports Weinstein used to target young actresses at these parties, and exploitative “networking” was a norm.

Predatory behavior, as culture, was not limited to Weinstein, and has been called out by glamorous names such as Lady Gaga and Rose McGowan.

Glitter fades but the questions remain

While many claim to have “cleaned up” the trashy side of their parties, the mystery continues. Speculation will continue, even in the age of “authentic” social media.

An industry insider told Rolling Stone, "In Hollywood, the real party starts after the press leaves and that’s where the truth gets dark.”
